2025 is ’n jaar van mylpale: Afrikaans vier haar 100ste amptelike bestaansjaar, en vier van die taal se mees oorspronklike, geliefde kunstenaarseuns, vier hul 50ste omwenteling om die son. Die resultaat? ’n Onvergeetlike vertoning genaamd DIE VYFTIGERS - ’n musikale viering van die lewe, taal, stories, en tyd.
NEIL SANDILANDS, SCHALK JOUBERT, GIAN GROEN en ABEL KRAAMSAAL - vier unieke stemme in die Afrikaanse musieklandskap - klim saam op een verhoog om hul liefde vir Afrikaans en hul eie halfeeu lange reis te eerbiedig. Dis ’n produksie wat eerlik, rou en reguit is - vol liriek, lag, melodie en menswees.
Die ontstaan van DIE VYFTIGERS, het begin tussen die appelboorde van Grabouw, by GIAN GROEN se 50ste verjaarsdagpartytjie. Tussen kitare, staalsnare en spontane samesyn, het NEIL SANDILANDS die lig gesien: vier musikale vriende, almal besig om die 50 mylpaal te takseer, in dieselfde jaar wat Afrikaans 100 jaar oud word. Dié kreatiewe toeval kon eenvoudig nie geïgnoreer word nie en met net een oproep na elk, was almal aan boord. So word DIE VYFTIGERS gebore - ’n unieke kruispunt tussen taal en tyd.
Elke kunstenaar bring sy eie storie, instrument en kleur na die verhoog en tussen hul vier loopbane is daar meer as 200 jaar se kreatiewe gravitas - elke noot en elke sin is deurdrenk met betekenis.

Met dekades se invloed in die musiekbedryf, dien met sy baskitaar as musikale anker en ritmiese gom.

Terug op die verhoog na jare in die korporatiewe wêreld, en honger vir die verhoog, bied vars insigte en kragtige lirieke.

Die hofnar en visuele impresario, verbind die produksie met humor, sinisme en teater flair.
DIE VYFTIGERS is nie net ’n musiekvertoning nie - dis ’n viering. Aan die hand van liedjies uit elk se repertoire, asook nuwe skeppings, wat spesifiek vir hierdie produksie ontwikkel is, neem die kunstenaars gehore op ’n reis deur persoonlike stories, taalgeskiedenis en tydlose klanke. Die vertoning is ten volle in Afrikaans - ’n danksegging aan die taal wat dit alles moontlik maak. Of jy nou ’n aanhanger is van Afrikaanse musiek, die kunstenaars self, of eenvoudig op soek is na iets eg, diep en vermaaklik – hierdie vertoning is ’n moet-sien!
“Wat kry jy as jy vier duidelike persoonlikhede op een verhoog sit, wat elk ’n instrument bespeel, ’n ordentlike liriek kan pen en derms het wat brand? Sprankel ’n aweregse Afrikaanse woordeskat, sprinkel ’n titsel selfnegerende humorsin, ’n spatsel witblitz, ’n slurpie Boere Zen en ’n draggie 50 jaar oue hardehout. Daar het jy dit. Die resep vir ’n aand se eersteklas vermaak: ‘Die Vyftigers’. Amper soos Trompie en die Boksombende. As ek dan nou Trompie is, en Gian is Rooies, Abel is Dawie, Briers Coetzee (ons klank inginieur wat ook kan Cajon speel) is Blikkies, dan is Schalk mos Boesman die brak.” - só sê Neil Sandilands.

NEIL SANDILANDS, SCHALK JOUBERT, GIAN GROEN, and ABEL KRAAMSAAL - four unique voices within the Afrikaans music landscape - take the stage together, to honour their love of Afri-kaans and their own half-century journeys. This production is honest, raw, and straight-talking - filled with lyrics, laughter, melody, and humanity.
The idea for DIE VYFTIGERS, was born amongst the apple orchards of Grabouw, during GIAN GROEN’s 50th birthday celebration. Amidst the sounds of steel strings and spontaneous makietie vibes, NEIL SANDILANDS had a lightbulb moment: four musical friends, all turning 50 during the same year Afrikaans, their mother-tongue, celebrates 100 officiated years. This potential creative coincidence simply couldn’t be ignored. One phone call to each was all it took - and just like that, DIE VYFTIGERS was born. A unique juncture of language, time and friendship.
Each artist brings his own story, instrument, and colour to the stage. Collectively, they combine over 200 years of creative experience - every note and every lyric steeped in meaning.

Known for ‘Vier Seisoene Kind’, brings his signature finger-style guitar technique and raw, emotive voice.
SCHALK JOUBERT
A music industry stalwart, anchors the offering with his world-class bass guitar glue.
ABEL KRAAMSAAL
Back on stage after years in the corporate world, brings a hunger and fresh insight, with existential lyrics and electrifying attack.
NEIL SANDILANDS
The jester and and all-round impresario, weaving the production elements with humor, cynicism, theatrical flair and his signature Ukelele.
